Dutch beer company Heineken has announced it is making a $32m investment in its UK pub operation which will create 700 new hospitality jobs.

More than 660 of the brewing company's Star Pubs & Bars venues will receive an upgrade and, of those outlets, 137 pubs will receive a makeover costing at least £125,000, bringing the company's investment in refurbishing its pubs to £115m since the start of the pandemic.

The investment will be largely made into suburban pubs and those on the high street which are located near residential areas and have benefited from the increase in home working.

Many of the sites will benefit from refitted kitchens and a new bar, plus improvements to outdoor seating areas to meet the increase in demand for alfresco dining and drinking that has followed the pandemic.

The 700 new pub jobs will be located across the UK and reflect the hospitality industry's strong recovery target for 2022 after two years of challenges presented by from pandemic restrictions.
