A well-established US fried chicken chain is opening six new restaurants which will create 600 hospitality jobs - and they say this is only the beginning.

Popeyes, which was founded in New Orleans in 1972, opened its first UK site in November 2021 in Stratford which after just six months became its highest performing restaurant in the world.

Since then it has opened new sites in areas including Bermondsey, Maida Vale and Whitechapel which include some delivery-only kitchens. The most recent opening was in Chelmsford in June with a restaurant set to open in Romford in July.

The new jobs will be based at sites in Nottingham, Gateshead, Oxford, Brighton, Ealing and Reading.

The company’s management have laid out plans to open hundreds more sites over the next decade in UK shopping malls, high streets plus drive thru sites. This will create thousands of new food service jobs.

There are more than 3,600 Popeyes restaurants around the world, and you can now find outlets in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Popeyes UK chief executive Tom Crowley said: “Accelerating our UK growth strategy in this way enables us to provide a much-needed jobs boost to the hospitality economy across both construction and hospitality roles.

“Across these six sites, we’re expecting to provide 600 employment opportunities, and we’re already eyeing our next raft of locations with announcements due imminently.”
