JCB is set to create 500 new jobs following the approval of a new pay deal that offers workers an inflation-matching wage increase over the next three years. The Midlands-based manufacturing firm has also announced a significant investment in job creation and skills development.
The agreement, reached after three months of negotiations between JCB and the GMB union, was accepted by over a thousand union members. The deal not only secures a pay rise but also confirms the company’s commitment to expanding its workforce.
Stuart Harrison, GMB Lead for Manufacturing in the Midlands, praised the outcome: "Workers across the country are feeling the pinch of a cost-of-living crisis; GMB Reps have worked tirelessly to ensure our members at JCB now have the reassurance of pay that keeps up with their bills for the next three years. The investment in 500 new jobs for our area is transformative not just for our workforce, but for the next generation of JCB workers too."
JCB also plans to relocate its operations from Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent to the East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park. The current site, which has been in use for over a decade, can only store half of the parts required by the UK factories. The company has indicated that operating from multiple sites is not sustainable in the long term.
JCB has offered a £5,000 incentive package to encourage staff to relocate when the move takes place in early 2025.
